Top Jimmy indeed!

While doing some research for this blog post and trying to think of something witty to come up with.

Top Jimmy by Van Halen seemed apropo. But. Isn't there always that but? In looking up VH's video. I learned something that never crossed my mind. There really is a Top Jimmy! I'm not foolin either. I should be ashamed of myself for this oversite for sure.

So. A new joint popped up on pizza radar. I was driving to work and an ad came over the radio for a new pizza place over in Moline. I was intrigued enough to get home and check out their online presence.

What really stood out to me is not only do they do the yada yada QC style pizza ,but they have a deep dish and a thin crust. Sweet!!!!!

The menu.

Okie Dokie. So Top Hat is a take out / carry out only operation. We did not know that as we went over the river.

So, we walked in and figured out what we needed to do to get some pizza. A few pics.

The Top Hat owner!

So finding out this was strictly a takeout pizza joint. We ordered and walked down the street to Rascal's. Yeah. That Rascal's.

This is where the blog kinda goes sideways. As Sheri and I were drinking some beers at Rascal's. Sheri says to me. That's the Sugar Nipple guy. Matthew Truitt.

I couldn't help but act the blatherer. Yeah, kinda attention and name droppin ho I am.

Good times too. The Nipples are going to be playing with The Shockers come Shamrock Shake Day(march 16) at the Fairgrounds!

Okay.Okay let's get to the pizza for effs sake.

So how was Top Hat Pizza?  For a one man operation ,Sher and I give it a solid 9 across the board. Sheri got a small pepperoni deep dish. I got a medium double Italian sausage thin crust.

We both agreed the deep dish sauce was the best. The thin crust was top notch. Sheri says Top Hat Pizza has the best deep dish in the QC. We both give it a solid 9! Plus Rascal's is right down the street for rock and roll!

Next visit will be me ordering a QC style sausage on thin crust. Sheri and I agree. Top Hat Pizza is worthy of your pizza money.

Cheers!

Scotty

Ah gee Peg !

Yes! Let's rock indeed. I know. It has been a while hasn't it? Crap weather. Crap sickness (except for yours truly). My self destructive ways seem to combat cooties, floozies, sneezies and the like.

Almost a month ago since the last  update and way overdue too.

Readers of this blog by now know that my videos usually try and tell a story about where we went or things we did or food we noshed. And so it is today.

What the heck does a few Al's have to do with this update? Most Al's I have known have been pretty good guys. I mean how can one not like an Al?

And so to this blog update. A pizza joint that has long been on my zza radar. Kinda like Zoey's in Marion. One of those places I know about but for some reason have just never ventured forth to try it out.

Well off we go. Alfano's is on 11 St in Rock Island. Over the Centennial Bridge and on towards Milan.

http://www.alfanopizza.com/

Alfano's is pretty much a no frills pizza joint. Probably 3 tables seating 10 peeps maybe. Better to take out. And there was a line.

So Scotty? How was Alfano's after all these years driving past and saying we need to go there?

Sher got a deep dish sausage and mushroom. I got a thin crust double sausage.

Chicken wings courtesy of Blazin Wings!

After all is said and done. I'm gonna give Alfano's an 8.5. The trouble with this blog post is that there really isn't a dining area,so we took the pizza home. From Al's to Eldridge with traffic is about a good 25 minutes.

My main ding is the sauce. If the sauce had some wang it would be home run. Alas rather pedestrian flavor. although the sausage and cheese kicked ass!

That said. Alfano's does pizza different than the usual QC style pizza. For that they get a 10.

I'll have the Usual

This time of year we have a bunch of birthdays. Right after Christmas and no money ta boot! We we have cash, but still.

So our son and sister in law celebrate Bdays at the same time. The sis in law likes Mo Brady's on (heehee) Brady St in Davenport. So hence it seems like that is the usual for this set of Birthdays.

I didn't get many good pics so this post is kind of short and to the point.

Mo Brady's is a steak house. And they do steak well. I had a sirloin and it was delish.

The mens room. Pretty clean.

A hunk of coconut shrimp. About the only food pic I got.

Birthday cake.

After checkout.

So. I apogise for the lack of pics. This was more of a private birthday get together than a reason to take a bunch of pics.

That said. Mo Brady's is a ying to the Texas Roadhouse yang. A much more quieter and older crowd tends to be at Mo's. And I like that. Everyone in the family had no complaints about the food and our two servers were most johnny on the spot.

And Mo's was packed. At least 50 people waiting for a table when we were leaving. I've never had bad food or service. Sometimes it's nice to have a low key place to have a decent steak.

Happy Birthday to my son Eric and sister in law Gail. We all had a good time. Seems our family has groupings of birthday get togethers and another one coming up at the end of March.

If you want a decent steak and a quiet atmosphere you certainly can't go wrong at Mo's.

Scotty gives it a good ole 8. One ding was the price. A wee bit on the high side, that said you can conversate here unlike The Roadhouse where ya gotta yell to talk.

Cheers!

Starting 2018 Irish style !

How in the hell have I never heard of this band?  I love rum. So I got that going for me. And I've always been a sucker for Irish music.

The Rumjacks! I gotta get out more often. Thin Lizzy, yes please. The Dropkick Murphie's, okay. U2, since Boy and New Years Day.

This Rumjack's lead singer reminds me of Guy Martin. That Guy Martin. The crazy real road racer. He ain't no sissy boy MotoGP racer. Notice both tires off the ground?

Okay. Okay Scotty simmer down. Let's not pop the wad early in January. I'll try.

I have been lurking on a Facebook Breaded Tenderloin page. I've had a pork hankering for awhile now. A few locals had gushed over Stout's Irish Pub in Clinton for their breaded tenderloins. I checked them out and they had pizza on the menu too!. Let's go.

The Rumjack's. Get it? Cheers.

Stout's

Stout's is right behind the Kohls and Walmart in Clinton. Not hard to find.

The bathroom if I could ding Stout's just for this. No urinal, just a busy knock, knock, knock stool.I can't imagine how slammed this poor bathroom is gonna be come shamrock shake day.

Evidently Stout's is part of some Iowa Tenderloin Trail and mall walk. I can't argue that.

So. How was Stout's? Sher and I went with no expectations except for the reviews we had read on some Yelp and Facebook pages.

And? Outstanding!!!!!!!!! The tenderloin I daresay better than I have ever had and I include the historic St Olaf T-loin in that pantheon.

Just look at this beauty.

It tasted every bit as good as it looked and I'm not lying. A good crunch. Moist and perfect thickness.

I am not one of those dogmatic aholes that say one can only have some certain condiment on any certain type food. I proudly put some ketchup and red onion on this bad boy. Scotty is no mustard fan and never will be.

Let us not forget we ordered a pizza too. A large sausage, pepperoni and onion.

We give the pizza a solid 8.5. Would have been a 9 for me ,but the tenderloin just out shined the pie and that's saying something coming from me.

The aftermath.

Final thoughts. We had a few other things in mind today, food wise. But dang. I think we just kicked the crap out of the start of 2018.
Sher gives the T-loin a ten and the pizza an 8.

I give a solid 9 across the board. We both agreed we would just return for the tenderloin as it is just that good. and would I lie to you all? I can't.

Stout's in Clinton is that good.

Some Irish band.Think I'll stay close for some more.

Here's to an asskickin 18!
