Station to Station

Sometimes you just need to kick it old school. Doesn't get much better than Montrose no doubt. So Space Station 5 leads us into this installment of the QC Pizza Blog.

A Quad City institution. I must admit I haven't been to The Filling Station in forever. Let's go!

http://www.thefillingstationdavenportiowa.com/

I cannot remember the last time I have been there. I have driven past there many many times though.

Right off Brady St in Davenport. Sanchos is just to the south across Duck Creek. Hmm. Haven't been there in a long while either.

Having frontloaded some rum and cokes. I availed the facilities right away. The bathroom was fairly clean. We were there after lunch, but beat the dinner time rush around 430 ish. So all in all the restroom was ok.

The menu. I didn't get very good pics. The Filling Station was dark enough inside for phone to use the flash. My picture skills are inadequate to say the least.

Quite the menu. In all honesty. This was a family gathering so we were splitting time between blogging and yakking, Good fun tho!

I ordered a 12 inch thin crust deluxe. Sausage,Pepperoni,Mushrooms and Green Peppers.
Sher ordered a breaded pork tenderloin.
The kid,as usual ordered chicken strips.
Various in laws and outlaws got chicken wings, onion rings, burgers and more pizza.

So how was the food?

The pizza could have been a home run if baked another five minutes. Sigh. This is my lament. Nobody seems to bake the zza long enough for my liking. The star of this pizza was the sauce. If you like saucy pizza head right over to the Filling Station. The toppings were okay.

The tenderloin was dang tasty. No real big,but big enough for the eight inch bun. Good crunch and thickness.

I did cadge some of my brother in law's chicken wings. Typical wings. I like my wings baked,I digress.

A few random pics. There was an outdoor volleyball court that was in action while we were there also.

I feel the need for Montrose.

Final thoughts. The Filling Station is like that old friend you tend to lose touch with. Always there, but you never seem to have the time to visit. Lord knows I have been by there a lot and always told the wife we should check it out.

I give it a good solid 8 on the Scotty scale.

As always

I've Been Down That Road

Today's blog post is a long strange trip indeed. First off,you readers need to watch Neil Young to get in my head for this post.

That was kinda of trippy,no?

All right. The gist of this Quad City Pizza Blog is a trip I just returned from. And no. It wasn't drugs or anything bad. It was a rather uplifting trip of family, friends, new friends and people I'd like to spend more time with.

This trip was to attend my beautiful niece's wedding. It was way down yonder in Tennessee. I won't bore you faithful readers of that part, but we did eat pizza. Let's go!

So the groom and bride wanted to take the wedding party out for pizza. We went to this place.

https://mellowmushroom.com/

I'm not sure what saffron has to do with anything,I digress.

So The Mellow Mushroom is a chain.

On with the show. I swear I tried to take good pictures. My camera might have been hanging with the White Rabbit. This particular  Mellow Mushroom is in Pigeon Forge Tennessee. And wow, what a place that is.

Mushrooms are the theme.

My sister Mindy was impressed. My brother in law Matt? Not so much!

Being that this pizza joint is in a way popular tourist area and super busy. The bathroom was slammed.

The menu.

Onto the zza. I have to be honest right up front. I had no say in the ordering of apps and the pizza. Kenz and Jon ordered for us.

Our table got some garlic bread.

We did get some pizza. A meaty type and a pepperoni.

I'll get to the review in a bit. This wall art was pretty damn funky. If only the 80's could come back!

So how was the pizza? Sher and I give it a 7. The cheese and toppings were great. The crust could have been great with maybe 5 more minutes in the oven.

I understand that where we were might have been the reason the pizza was rushed. This place was super busy.

The Mellow Mushroom vibe was off the hook fun. The pizza was just okay, but that didn't take away from the fun we had.

Jon and Kenzie?

Thank you for the fun. Welcome to our crazy misfit tribe.

Scott & Sher.

BTW. I have been told there is a Mellow Mushroom in the greater Iowa City of this blog's stomping grounds.

Drivin A Little Slower

Kind of a different QC Pizza blog today. Going to see some slammin cars and hopefully eat some tasty taco's too!

So I have a friend from work that's into the car lifestyle. While I'm more of a motorcycle kinda guy, I can appreciate cool cars. The Latin Persuasion Car Club of the QC.

https://www.facebook.com/LatinPersuasionCarClub/

This post will be pic heavy.  With out further adieu some low riders, bikes and trucks.

My friend from work Derek Muller's nice Impala.

And away we go.

While we were there. The wife bought 5 bucks worth of raffle tickets. Alas she did not win,but we won today by seeing these cool cars.

There was a bunch of tricked out bicycles.

Last, but certainly not least. A few trucks.

As I said pic heavy. So Scotty. Where is the food you ask? A few weeks ago we did a blog post about food trucks that came out to Eldridge. This time. I have the truck and we visit the food.

First up was some tacos at the car show. We ordered 3 carne asada double shelled tacos. We ate them kind of walking around and sweating. We all agreed they were tasty.

Next up in our Taco wanderings.

La Racnherita in Rock Island.

https://www.yelp.com/biz/la-rancherita-rock-island

So we ordered a tostada,an enchilada and two beef tacos. The salsa was great. The chips sucked. Tasted like some cheap store bought.

And last on our 3 hour taco tour. La Finca down on 2nd St in Davenport.

https://www.facebook.com/La-Finca-186831128015943/

La Finca is a combo grocery store and restaurant. We were kind of getting full by then, but certainly not deterred on our taco mission. Straight up I must say. The wait staff here were lazy and indifferent. We had to get our own menus. The waitress finally showed up and really couldn't be bothered. Never asked if we needed refills and did not provide sauce.

Moll ordered the full bore Coca Cola!

The food was great tho. Chips were the best of the day. The salsa was nuclear reactive. We got two plates of rice and beans and one tostada.

We will most certainly give La Finca another go. The food was good, but ugh. The help sucked. We did get a few things from the grocery store too.

All in all we had a great day. Trying different places out and just nibbling at them all was a contrast to our normal food outings.

Since this has been an over the top post. I'm going to play one more video. Smooth has been our day. I hope you enjoyed our adventure today.

I like these type of food travels.

I hope you enjoyed my post. I understand it's not our normal way we do things, but sometimes we need to shake it up!
